School pride is strong in Utah. Even if it’s been years since you’ve been to college, your alma mater probably still holds a special place in your heart. You can even go back and visit from time to time (like me!). And while visiting your old college campus will flood you with memories, it’s just the beginning of the fabulous places to visit and explore. Many of Utah’s college towns are the perfect destination for exploration and adventure and the following five are ideal for your next weekend getaway.

   Logan, UT

I may be a little biased, but no list of the best college towns in Utah is complete without naming Logan (it’s my alma mater after all). Although Utah State University is a beautiful campus located at the mouth of Logan Canyon and featuring fantastic areas like the Quad and Old Main, it’s easy to spend a weekend exploring Cache Valley. If you only have a day or two, I suggest activities such as walking around the historic downtown area, seeing a show at the Ellen Eccles Theater (built in 1923), and exploring Zootaha charming little zoo. You will also want to spend some time Logan Canyon (especially in the fall when the fall foliage is at its peak) and grab a frozen treat at Aggie Ice Cream.

2. Ephraim, College of Snows

Not only is it Ephraim absolutely beautiful but it’s a small town full of history. This town dates back to the 1850s and is nicknamed “Little Denmark” due to the diversity of people who live there. In addition to the city’s historic buildings, visit Great Basin Station, a historic landmark located in a renovated U.S. Forest Service research center. I also recommend taking a scenic drive on Ephraim Canyon Road, go hikingand dine at one of the town’s local restaurants.

3. Price, Utah State University Eastern

Price is an often overlooked Utah college town, especially for weekend adventures. Although you can attend activities at Utah State University Eastern, this town is also home to the USU Eastern Prehistoric Museum. If you want to spend a lot of time outdoors, this is a lovely place as this town is close. Goblin Valley State Parkthe Cleveland-Lloyd dinosaur quarry, Nine Mile Canyonand the San Rafael Swell.

4. Cedar City, Southern Utah University

If you want to venture to the south, there’s nothing like a weekend adventure in Cedar City. This city is home to Southern Utah University (SUU) and there are always activities and events for you to enjoy throughout the year. If you want to spend some time in town, learn at Frontier Homestead State Park or admire masterpieces at the Southern Utah Museum of Art. I love visiting Cedar Breaks National Monument and browse the beautiful Red Hollow Trail. This college town is also close to Zion National Park and Bryce Canyon National Park if you want even more adventure.

5. St. George, Utah Technological University

Yes, I know St. George is a town rather than a village, but it deserved to be on this list because it makes for an incredible weekend getaway. In fact, there’s so much to see and do here that you’ll barely scratch the surface of the activities on offer in one weekend. If time permits, I recommend exploring Red Hills Desert GardenPioneer Park and Snow Canyon State Park. You can also hike at Red Cliffs Recreation Area and play in the water at Sand Hollow State Park. Spend time shopping in Town Square or catch a show at the Tuacahn Amphitheater. If you’re hungry, be sure to visit Croshaw’s Gourmet Pie Shop.
