A 14-year-old boy from Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, is facing a series of charges for multiple threats of violence against a Kemptville high school, Ontario Provincial Police announced Friday.

Telephone threats to commit violence at St. Michael Catholic High School began Sept. 12 and continued through Oct. 17, according to a news release.

The charges against the teen included: uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm; indecent communications; nonsense; public mischief; and unauthorized use of a computer.

He remained in custody Friday following a bail hearing and was scheduled to appear by video in Ontario Court of Justice in Brockville on Tuesday. His identity is protected by the provisions of the Youth Criminal Justice Act.

The press release states that the investigation led by members of the Ontario Provincial Police Grenville Detachment Criminal Unit, assisted by the Ontario Provincial Police Cyber ​​Investigations Team, Team regional support unit from the Ontario Provincial Police, RCMP and Bridgewater police, led to the search of a home and school in Bridgewater on Friday. One person was arrested and investigators seized electronic devices.

“Although charges have been laid, the investigation continues, in collaboration with police from several jurisdictions, as well as the Federal Bureau of Investigations in the United States,” the release said, adding that the OPP Ontario continues to examine potential links to any similar incidents, including a threat against Seaway District High School in Iroquois.

The threats led regional boards to order the closure of several schools, including several days at St. Michael Catholic Secondary School.
