Penguins Game 10, Storm Gathering; Lines, grades, how to watch against the Canucks

VANCOUVER — The Pittsburgh Penguins (3-5-1) are winless in their last four games and have lost three of those games in regulation, including an ugly 4-0 no-show loss to the Edmonton Oilers on Friday at Rogers Place. On Saturday, the Penguins finish their four-game road trip by facing the Vancouver Canucks (3-1-2) at Rogers Arena.

Puck drops tonight shortly after 10 p.m. ET.

The Penguins are in the midst of a tough time, and that might be an understatement. Coach Mike Sullivan didn’t tear his team apart in anger after the loss to Edmonton, but there were no cookies and milk either.

“It was worrying because we’re just not good enough right now. We didn’t play hard enough. We didn’t play together as a group (and) we weren’t good enough,” said Penguins coach.

The Penguins had few, if any, highlights but got a sparkling performance from rookie goaltender Joel Blomqvist, who stopped 46 of the 50 shots he faced. At the end of the game, Edmonton was playing with the Penguins and trying to score Zach Hyman his first goal of the season.

The Penguins increased their shot total to 27 with a few chances in the timeouts, but they were once again outscored in Edmonton.

Vancouver has won three in a row, beating the Florida Panthers and Philadelphia Flyers on the road and the Chicago Blackhawks at home. They’ve been off since Tuesday, when they beat Chicago, while the Penguins are finishing another back-to-back streak.

Brock Boeser leads the team with four goals, and four Vancouver players are tied for the team lead with six points (Boeser, JT Miller, Connor Garland, Quinn Hughes).

The news from the Penguins on Saturday was that they were assigning goaltender Tristan Jarry to the AHL’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on a conditioning assignment, which could last up to 14 days.

Sullivan may have a few line changes in store, but due to back-to-back games, there was no morning skate. Goalkeeper Alex Nedeljkovic is expected to start.
