Driver stuck in vehicle in ditch safely extricated in east Ottawa

The Ottawa Fire Department says a driver was safely extricated from a vehicle that landed in a ditch following a three-vehicle collision in the city’s east end Friday afternoon .

Firefighters say they received a call around 2:50 p.m. from Ottawa police reporting a collision that resulted in a vehicle overturning and landing in a ditch at the intersection of Albion and Lester roads.

When crews arrived on scene four minutes after the first call, they found it was a three-vehicle collision. Firefighters confirmed a driver was trapped in a vehicle that landed on the driver’s side.

That’s when they stabilized the vehicle and began extricating the driver.

The driver was extricated after firefighters removed the windshield and part of the roof of the vehicle.

Shortly before 3:15 p.m., the driver was safely extricated. Firefighters placed the driver on a board and slid him onto a roof ladder to get him out of the ditch.

Crews then spread an absorbent over the leaking fuels.

They cleared the scene at 3:38 p.m. and left the area under the control of Ottawa police.
