Police investigating Tesco truck fireball on M25 between J5 to Sevenoaks and J6 to Godstone

Police are investigating after a Tesco truck exploded in a ball of flames.

Shocking dashcam footage captured the moment the truck crashed into a barrier while traveling along the M25 clockwise between Junction 5 for Sevenoaks and Junction 6 near Godstone.

A huge fireball erupted from the truck, spilling flames onto the roadway as it veered into the central reservation before stopping.

The incident, which occurred shortly after 10pm on Sunday, caused widespread disruption as emergency services worked to clear the wreckage.

Contacted by KentOnline for comment, Tesco said it was supporting emergency services in their investigations into the incident involving one of its vehicles.

A Surrey Police spokesperson said: “Our investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made. »

Surrey Fire and Rescue have also been contacted for further details of their investigation.

Anthony Moc was traveling along the M25 when he captured the moment the truck exploded in a ball of fire.

“He hit the barrier and there was a big ball of fire,” the 29-year-old said.

“I was panicked and a little scared.

“It was the first time I witnessed an accident while driving.

“I was afraid the truck would explode.”

The fire forced the closure of the M25 in both directions.

Five fire trucks and two water carriers were called to deal with the incident and crews remained on scene for 10 hours.

National Highways said the fire caused significant damage to the roadway and the central median barrier.

Due to the intensity of the fire, the recovery of the vehicle was also complicated because parts of it had disintegrated.

Mr Moc added: “It caught fire very quickly and that really surprised me.

“There was a lot of fire.

“I’m not used to it, I’m used to my normal, boring driving.”

Another witness, who was also traveling behind the Tesco truck, said the driver was “pulled to safety before it exploded”.

“We managed to hold back all traffic on both sides until the firefighters arrived,” they said.

“It was so lucky no one else was involved.”

The driver suffered minor injuries, according to Surrey police.
