Police make 25 arrests in Surrey shoplifting operation

The Delta Police Service (DPD) Patrol Support Team (PST), in partnership with Surrey RCMP’s Northern Community Response Unit (CRU), recently teamed up to conduct an operation targeted to reduce shoplifting in Guildford town centre.

According to DPD, this one-day joint initiative resulted in the arrest of 25 people for various theft-related offenses.

The operation, coordinated in conjunction with mall security and nine participating retail stores, including U.S. Loss Prevention Specialists, was highly effective in curbing criminal activity, according to police.

Among the recommended fees were:

17 counts of theft under $5,000

Possession of identity documents

Violation of probation

Police also executed three arrest warrants, which led to one individual being detained for a probation violation. Officers seized three weapons, including knives and pepper spray, and recovered more than $6,500 in stolen merchandise.

“The success of this anti-shoplifting project demonstrates the value of the partnership between the Delta Police Service and our policing partners in Surrey,” said Insp. interim. James Sandberg, spokesperson for DPD. “Together, we are increasing our effectiveness in reducing crime in our communities. »
