Saskatoon man charged with arson after multiple fires in Mayfair

A 31-year-old man has been charged with arson following several deliberately set fires in the Mayfair neighborhood on Thursday morning.

The firefighters intervened four lights in one hour, including a detached garage, a terrace and two fences.

In a news release released Friday morning, the Saskatoon Police Service (SPS) said that shortly after 10 a.m. Thursday, officers received a report of a fence fire in the 100 block of West 31st Street while they were responding to other fires reported in the area.

Officers found a man matching the suspect’s description a few blocks from another fire that was actively burning.

Police said the 31-year-old man was arrested at the scene without issue and charged with arson for setting the fence on fire. He also had a warrant for his arrest for unlawful liberty and was found guilty of violating conditions imposed by the court.

Police believe the fence fire is linked to a series of fires that took place in the area on Thursday.

Police say they are continuing their investigation and more charges may be laid.
