North Shore Rescue searching for man after vehicle found

Search and rescue teams have been tasked with searching for a missing man whose vehicle was recently found on the North Shore.

Scott Phillips has been missing since September 27 and Surrey RCMP have appealed for information regarding his disappearance on October 8.

On Thursday, North Shore Rescue posted on social media that Phillips’ vehicle – reported by RCMP as a black Kia Sorento – had been found near the Brothers Creek trailhead in the British Properties neighborhood of West Vancouver.

NSR said it was asked by Mounties and the West Vancouver Police Service to search the area, adding that personnel would be “active” Thursday evening and all day Friday.

“Anyone who has been to the area in the past month and has relevant information or sightings is asked to contact police,” the search team said.

Surrey RCMP said Phillips was reported missing on September 29. He was last seen on September 27 “in a business in the Park and Tilford shopping center area of North Vancouver,” police said.

RCMP describe Phillips as a 43-year-old white man with short brown hair and brown eyes. He is 6’1″ and weighs 200 pounds, and he has “several tattoos on his legs and arms.”

Phillips also tattooed the letters “OK” on the fingers of his left hand, police said.

Surrey RCMP say the missing man is “an experienced outdoorsman” who frequents the Cypress Mountain area and camps in the backcountry.

The North Shore was hit hard by last weekend’s atmospheric river, which dumped hundreds of millimeters of rain on the region, causing streams to overflow and leaving some streets looking more like muddy rivers.

Across the province, at least three people died in flooding and mudslides during the storm. A fourth man, Robert Belding, is still missing in Coquitlam, but crews said Thursday they are now focusing on search efforts. as a recovery missionwhich means Belding is presumed dead.
