Police recorded statements regarding Chinese flag waving incident in Teluk Intan

IPOH: Police took statements from those who participated in the hoisting of the Chinese flag during a cultural event in Teluk Intan.

Perak police chief Comm Datuk Azizi Mat Aris said the organizer of the event and 17 Chinese nationals were among those called to record their statements.

Comm Azizi said they have received an order of investigation (OTI) from the state Deputy Attorney General and will take necessary action.

“There were allegations that other flags were also hung.

“We will look into this matter because around 200 foreigners, including those from Thailand and Vietnam, attended the event,” he said at a press conference after participating in the nasyid competition organized by the state police union at the state secretariat building here on Friday (October 25). .

In a video that went viral, several people were seen hoisting the Chinese flag during a parade on Thursday (October 24).

He said investigations were being carried out under Section 4(1) of the Peaceful Assembly Act and Section 3(1) of the National Emblems (Display Control) Act.

“We will follow the DPP’s instructions and take the next step once we have completed our investigations,” he added.

Comm Azizi also explained that they received a notice from the organizer about holding the event and parade, but they objected to some of the conditions set by the police.

“The police had set a condition that no foreigners should take part (in the parade).

“Other conditions were that the procession should not disturb the public or affect traffic,” he said.

He said event organizers needed to be transparent with police about what they planned to do or bring.

“If they bring a flag, they have to indicate this in their application, and we will set our own conditions,” he added.
