Jack White plays an unannounced concert at The Vanguard in Milwaukee

Jack White I did something Thursday night’s surprise show at the High Noon Saloon in Madison, which seats 200 to 300 people. a concert was announced early that morning.

But that wasn’t White’s only surprise concert in Wisconsin.

After the Madison show, the rock star and his band took the stage unannounced. Pioneer A 10th anniversary celebration in Milwaukee’s Bay View neighborhood has been canceled.

White posted a snippet of his Vanguard set, which was played for just a handful of people, on his Instagram page early Friday morning.

It was a Milwaukee homecoming of sorts for White, who made his Milwaukee debut at the nearby Cactus Club in the White Stripes. He also has a close connection to Vanguard’s co-owner. Chris Schulist. They have been friends for more than two decades and Schulist served as White’s touring DJ in 2022.

Although the Vanguard is not a regular music venue, it has a stellar reputation in Milwaukee’s restaurant scene. The late Journal Sentinel food critic Rachel Bernhard included it in her list of the top 10 casual dining spots in the area.

“This artisanal sausage shop has been a beloved spot in Bay View for a decade, but in addition to table service, it also has a new head chef Hansem CastilloLast fall, The Vanguard may have been better than ever,” Bernhard wrote recently.
