Winfield man on ‘dream trip’ found dead after fire in Canada

WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) – A 77-year-old Winfield man died following a fire in Canada.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police say an elderly man who was a guest at the Driftwood Motel in Deer Lake was reported missing after a fire on Oct. 19.

Human remains were found on the property Wednesday morning and were identified as belonging to the missing man.

According to an obituary Mile Funeral Service Eugene Earl “Gene” Spoon, 77, of Wichita, died following a fire at the Driftwood Motel in Deer Lake during a dream moose hunting trip in Newfoundland, Canada, the website said.
