Winnipeg fire: North End house catches fire

A North End home caught fire early Monday morning.

According to the city, Winnipeg Fire Paramedics were called shortly after 3:30 a.m. to a two-story home in the 400 block of Redwood Avenue.

Crews arrived to find the home fully engulfed in flames, with the fire spreading to a neighboring home.

Some residents were themselves evacuated before crews arrived, and firefighters temporarily evacuated some neighboring homes as a precaution.

Firefighters launched a defensive attack from the exterior and brought the fire under control about an hour later.

Crews searched the homes and discovered a cat was dead.

No other injuries were reported.

The house where the fire broke out and a neighboring house were both damaged by the flames.

A city emergency social services team is helping displaced residents find temporary housing.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
