Stephen Curry sprained left ankle in Warriors loss

SAN FRANCISCO – Stephen Curry injured his left ankle late in the third quarter on Sunday 112-104 defeat against the Los Angeles Clipperstried to come back then came out again and left the field for the locker room.

Curry returned briefly at 8:08 of the fourth quarter before emerging 13 seconds later after turning his ankle — it appeared to roll outward — again during an offensive possession. It happened near the end of Golden State’s bench and he limped into the tunnel leading to the locker room.

The team said he was done for the night with a sprained left ankle, and coach Steve Kerr said after the game that Curry would undergo an MRI on Sunday night.

“He’s fine. He said it was, I think he used the word mild or moderate,” Kerr said. “He’s obviously sprained his ankle a few times before, so he doesn’t think it’s too much serious, but it’s obviously a problem.”

Curry was on the sideline defended by Kris Dunn when he got away from Dunn toward the baseline and re-injured his ankle. It was 2:43 into the third quarter when Curry first limped to the bench for the rest of the period.

The two-time MVP and NBA all-time 3-point leader finished with 18 points, six assists and four rebounds, shooting 6 of 11 with four 3-pointers.

Curry, 36, is entering his 16th NBA season and regularly suffers from ankle problems in his right and left feet.

“You don’t replace Steph Curry but we have a strong team, that’s what the numbers are for,” guard Moses Moody said.

Curry’s teammates hope he won’t be sidelined for long.

“Shake your head, I hate having him, especially with him,” guard Gary Payton II said. “Everything will be fine.”
