Toronto Blue Jays minor league park could host Tampa Bay Rays in 2025

The Toronto Blue Jays minor league complex in Dunedin, Florida, is a candidate to house the Tampa Bay Rays baseball stadium in 2025, according to a report from ESPN’s Jesse Rogers.

Tropicana Field, home of the Rays, was severely damaged recently by Hurricane Milon. It’s unclear if the building will be usable in 2025, but it certainly appears the Rays will at least need temporary housing at the start of the season.

By Rogers:

(Commissioner Rob) Manfred said there are several options available if Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla., is not ready for Opening Day. They include playing in a minor league or spring facility, with one source saying Tampa, Dunedin and Clearwater are among possible neighboring cities.

Manfred said the league would like to have an update on Tropicana Field by the Christmas break. The Rays are still gathering information on the damage that would take weeks.

The Blue Jays’ facilities in Dunedin have been updated for 2021 and the following is from an article about the Jays website:

After two years and nearly $100 million, Toronto unveiled its newest player development complex on Thursday, a transition from a mediocre facility to what president and CEO Mark Shapiro called “the best complex in all of Major League Baseball” in October. During the Blue Jays’ virtual unveiling, Shapiro hailed it as a facility “that can directly contribute to the return of World Series championships to Canada.”

THE Blue Jays use the Dunedin facilities for spring training and for their Single-A club. The major league team played there for part of 2021 due to the COVID pandemic.
