BOSTON — Brad Marchand said reports that he is close to a contract extension with the Bruins are not accurate.

Elliotte Friedman of SportsNet in Canada, reported that Marchand and the Bruins are near a contract extension.

On SportsNet’s “Headlines,” he said:

“The Bruins and Marchand are said to be getting closer to an extension that should last three years. We’ll see what happens next, but they’re rumored to be getting closer.

The report came shortly before the Bruins beat Toronto in overtime.

Marchand disputed this information post-match.

“I don’t like talking about contracts in the media. But this report from Elliotte is false,” he said. “Elliott is simply wrong. That’s about it.

Before the season, Sweeney he acknowledged that conversations had begun with Marchand.

Marchand, who underwent offseason surgery, said he had no plans to publicly discuss his desire for an extension or progress of negotiations.
