Family says woman found in Walmart oven burned to death

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia (KSNW) — The Maritime Sikh Society says a 19-year-old woman who died in a Halifax Walmart bakery oven was discovered by her mother.

Gursimran Kaur died on Saturday, October 19. The Maritime Sikh Society posted details on a GoFundMe page. It is said that her mother, who worked with her at the store, had been looking for her for hours when she found her body in the bakery oven.

The family says she burned to death inside. Halifax Regional Police have not confirmed the cause of death and say the investigation is still ongoing.

Both Kaur and her mother immigrated from India, where her brother and father still live. The GoFundMe page was created to cover family expenses and help loved ones travel to Canada.

The initial goal was $50,000, but it raised $130,659 Canadian. ($94,302.20)
