Shola Shoretire can prove his point at Man Utd with new PAOK team

Manchester United take on Greek club PAOK in the Europa League and face a familiar face.

It is often noticed among Manchester United fansthat players perform better when they are away from Old Trafford.

See Fred become a key star of Fenerbahce, or David de Gea saves penalties at Fiorentina. And in recent months there have been calls for United to bring back a few players the club had let go.

Angel Gomes has left United free and is now English internationalwhile Alvaro Fernandez’s performances for Benfica saw the the club should activate its buyout clause.

Now another former Manchester United talent is set to get back on the club’s radar, just months after his departure.

Shola Shoretire’s PAOK faces Manchester United

After three draws in the Europa League to start the campaign, Manchester United faces PAOK, who have one draw and two defeats.

United have home advantage for this match and even with interim boss Ruud van Nistelrooy Holding the fort until the arrival of Ruben Amorim, the Red Devils will strongly want to win the game.

Among the opposition is a former Manchester United prodigy Shola Shoretirewho left the club on a free transfer this summer.

Shoretire was incredibly highly rated at United, making his UEFA Youth League debut aged just 14, and became a regular for the Under-21s at 16.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer handed over Shoretire debuts in 2021, where he becomes one of the the club’s youngest players of all time.

Erik ten Hag didn’t feel as positive and didn’t select Shoretire for a single minute during his tenure as Manchester United boss.

Shoretire marked nine goals and five assists for the under-21s last season, but were in danger of stagnating without first-team football.

It wasn’t a surprise Shoretire has chosen to go on a free transfer in summer – although his choice of club with the Greek side PAOK was out of left field.

How is Shola Shoretire doing at PAOK

Shola Shoretire did not immediately become a starter for PAOK, second in the Greek Super League after 10 games.

Shoretire played mainly as a substitute, playing six league matches, totaling just 152 minutes of action.

And in their three Europa League matches, he has only played seven minutes so far.

Still, there is hope that Shoretire will convince his fans and manager, after scoring his first goal of PAOK fifteen days ago.

Shoretire scored in a 3–0 cup win, which was only his third start in all competitions for the club.

With eight appearances in total, there is a good chance that Shoretire will play a part against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

Even though this United game probably came a little early for Shoretire to really demonstrate some growth, it is nonetheless an opportunity and a chance for him to show the club what they are missing.
