Cabell County wildfire under control

CABELL COUNTY, W.Va. (WSAZ) – Throughout southern West Virginia, crews responded to several brush fires. Division of Forestry officials confirm the fire along the 4200 block of Big Seven Mile Road is contained.

“It’s not one of the worst fires, but it’s one of the largest fires we’ve had this season,” said Cabell County Forester Craig Elswick.

According to firefighters, the estimated 50-acre brush fire started along the 4200 block of Big Seven Mile Road and spread due to dry conditions, low humidity and ongoing drought.

Several fire departments in West Virginia and Ohio helped contain it.

One homeowner told WSAZ’s Abbey Lord that he came back from a hunting trip to see the fire – and that he was crying so hard that watching his property burn made him realize that nothing should be taken for granted .

Authorities say no injuries were reported.
