Surrey NHS trust receives praise from care watchdog

The care watchdog has praised inpatient community health services at the Royal Surrey NHS Foundation Trust after a two-day unannounced inspection.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) found that care of older people at Milford and Haslemere hospitals was safe, effective, responsive and well-led.

No rating was given to their services due to the focused nature of the inspection.

This is the first such inspection at the hospitals, both of which have two elderly wards with a total of 46 beds.

Inspectors, who visited the site in June, found that there were low vacancy rates and that there were enough staff on duty to meet patients’ needs.

However, the CQC said a few patients have told them they sometimes feel understaffed.

The CQC said all 13 patients they spoke to said staff were caring and treated them in a professional and compassionate manner.

Patients also felt engaged in their care and said staff worked to ensure they could be discharged safely.
