What will the Supreme Court do if the result is contested?

Since Bush v. Gore, a specter has loomed over the US presidential elections: the possibility of a close election being decided by the Supreme Court.

And while no presidential race since 2000 has been this close in the Electoral College, in a closely divided country it remains a credible possibility. But trust in the court is at an all-time low. Can voters trust that, if this election is contested, judges will respect the rule of law and protect the voice of the people?
