Navajo Nation Sues to Extend Election Day Voting Hours Following Technical Issues in Apache County

Following technical issues in Apache County on Election Day, Navajo NationThe President said he had filed a lawsuit to extend voting hours to accommodate voters.

Arizona’s secretary of state said voters in the county experienced problems with electronic poll books and printers.

Navajo Nation President Buu Nygren says he has filed a lawsuit in the Superior Court of the State of Arizona against Apache County extend voting hours.

“This action is intended to ensure that every Navajo citizen who shows up to the polls today has the opportunity to vote,” a news release from the Navajo Nation said.

“Technical teams are addressing these issues and most voting sites are now operational. Remaining challenges are being resolved with the support of our office as we assist with troubleshooting,” the secretary of state’s office said. “Voters are urged to vote provisionally due to documentation issues and should contact the Apache County Recorder for assistance at [email protected] or (928) 337-7515 / (928) 337 -7632.”

The court responded by ruling that some polling places in Apache County could remain open until 9 p.m. on November 5.
