Here’s a look at the projected contract for Milwaukee Brewers free agent Willy Adames

On Monday, MLBTradeRumors released its annual list of the top 50 free agents in baseball this season. Juan Soto is at the top of the list, as he is coming off an incredible season with the New York Yankees. He also hits the market at just 26 years old, an extreme rarity in today’s football.

Sitting at #5 on this list? Shortstop Willy Adames, who is coming off a great year with the Milwaukee Brewers. Now, four personalities make up the MLBTR team and all four projected Adames to sign with the San Francisco Giants. It’s certainly interesting, given that Adames has also been connected to teams like the Dodgers and Los Angeles Braves, but it’s really just speculation. It’s also worth noting that no one predicted he would return to Milwaukee.

But what interests us more is the proposed contract for Adames, estimated at six years and $160 million.

MLBTradeRumors is usually spot on with its arbitration numbers, so rough contract projections can definitely be relied upon, especially for top free agents.

The Brewers offered Adames a one-year, $21 million qualifying offer, which he will almost certainly decline. At least if Adames leaves Milwaukee, they won’t be left with nothing. The $160 million price tag might be too steep for a Brewers team looking to save money at almost every turn. The team has traded Corbin Burnes and Josh Hader in recent seasons for financial reasons and could end up doing the same with Devin Williams this year.

Adames had a tremendous season in Milwaukee, hitting .251 with 32 home runs and 112 RBIs. He helped carry the lineup, even though Christian Yelich was missing for part of the year. The Brewers surprisingly won the National League Central and were eliminated in the National League Wild Card Series by the New York Mets.

A seven-year veteran of the Tampa Bay Rays and Brewers, Adames is a lifetime .248 hitter. He has hit exactly 150 career home runs, with this year’s 32 being his career high.
