Shakib Al Hasan reported for suspicious bowling action – Breaking News

Shakib al Hasan bowls against Somerset in the County ChampionshipBangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan was flagged by umpires due to suspect bowling action during his one-off appearance for Surrey in this season’s County Championship.

Shakib has been invited to undergo analysis of his bowling action by the England and Wales Cricket Board.

Shakib scalped nine wickets for Surrey in a thrilling Championship clash against Somerset at Taunton in September, where the all-rounder bowled over 63 overs and picked up nine wickets. However, it has now been learned that on-field umpires Steve O’Shaughnessy and David Millns later deemed his bowling action suspicious.

It was Shakib’s first appearance in the competition since a brief spell with Worcestershire in 2010-11, having decided to play for Surrey for a short spell while eight players were away on England duty.

It is understood Shakib is not suspended from playing but will be required to undergo further testing at an approved venue over the coming weeks. This is a major surprise for Shakib whose bowling action has never come under scrutiny in his career spanning over 17 years, which saw him pick 712 wickets in 447 matches international.

“The matter (Shakib’s suspicious bowling action) has no connection with international cricket or domestic cricket in other countries. The matter falls within the jurisdiction of the ECB and is not related to the ICC or other boards,” a BCB official said on Monday as his attention was drawn to the matter adding that if Shakib wants to continue playing domestic cricket in England, in that case he will have to take a test.

Shakib was not picked for the three-match ODI series against Afghanistan. He insisted he needed more time to recover after being asked not to return home to play his farewell Test against South Africa, something he wanted in announcing his retirement.
