In an email to Global News, Peel Regional Police said a video circulating on social media appears to have shown an off-duty officer “involved in a protest.”

Police said investigators believed the same protesters who demonstrated outside the temple then moved to two separate locations in Mississauga, Ontario.

An arrest that occurred Sunday “during the management of the demonstration” in the Westwood Mall area of ​​Mississauga resulted in a police officer being slightly injured, Peel police said.

The Canadian Hindu Foundation claimed that the “attack” “is occurring with the support of Khalistaani’s political supporters.”

In his message, Modi claimed there had been “cowardly attempts to intimidate our diplomats”.

“Such acts of violence never weaken India’s resolve,” Modi wrote on X. “We expect the Canadian government to ensure justice and uphold the rule of law.”

Several Canadian politicians denounced the incident, with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau calling the violence “unacceptable.”

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre also said his party “unequivocally” condemned the violence, adding that it would “unite our people and end the chaos.”

Ontario Premier Doug Ford condemned the incident and added: “No one should feel unsafe in their place of worship.”
