New documentary shows never-before-seen footage of heinous Maricopa crime

A major online crime documentary production company has taken a look at the Maricopa Police Department. most famous case.

Machelle Hobson was accused of abusing her five adopted children at this Maricopa home.

YouTube’s parent company, Explore with ushas 8.3 million subscribers across its three channels and posted a video last night titled โ€œCops rescue 7 kids trapped in YouTuber’s house of horrorsยป, on his EWU Body Camera channel. The video was viewed more than 625,000 times in the first 13 hours.

PinAl County Prosecutor Kent Volkmer also described the house as a “house of horrors” in the first episode of his podcastCourtroom Chronicles, January 29.

The EWU web documentary features newly released body camera footage, 911 audio, police report clippings and crime scene photos from the home where Machelle Hackney Hobson, 48, was arrested for abusing her seven adopted children for her YouTube channel, Fantastic Adventures.

One of her daughters in the body camera footage tells police her mother dumped two cans of pepper spray on her and starved her for several days. In this sequence, the police try to offer the girl food, but she says she is afraid that her mother will smell the food on her breath.

Hobson was charged with multiple counts of child abuse, kidnapping and aggravated assault. Her two adult biological sons โ€“ Logan Hackney, 26, and Ryan Hackney, 28 โ€“ were also accused of failing to report child abuse.

The case attracted national attention, but the family was ultimately not sentenced to prison.

The charges against Hobson’s sons were discontinued in April 2019although PCAO did not explain why at the time.

About a month later, Hobson suffered a brain injury while in the Pinal County Jail and was later declared incompetent stand trial. She was released from prison in June of that year and died after five months of deteriorating health.
