‘Exceptional is not good’: City imposes unpaid parking tickets – DiscoverMooseJaw.com

The City of Moose Jaw is sending letters this week to people with outstanding parking tickets.

“Exceptional Is Not Good” is a new campaign the city has launched to recoup lost revenue from unpaid parking tickets.

According to a report submitted to the city council in December 2022, more than 4,000 people owed a total of $1.08 million in unpaid fines.

“Parking ticket revenue helps fund City operations such as infrastructure repairs,” City Manager Maryse Carmichael said in a press release. “The City of Moose Jaw has a list of thousands of unpaid parking tickets totaling nearly a million dollars. It is our responsibility to the taxpayers of Moose Jaw and to the majority of people who pay their parking tickets to enforce our penalties.

In February, Moose Jaw City Council passed Impounding Bylaw No. 5689 which gives the city the authority to “seize, impound, immobilize, sell or otherwise deal with or dispose of vehicles in order to enforce and collect fines for parking infractions.”

Those who receive a letter in the mail will have 60 days to pay their unpaid parking tickets. If fines are not paid within 60 days, violators may have their vehicle towed or impounded until the unpaid fine is paid.

Information on how to pay fines is available on the Parking Page on the City of Moose Jaw website.
