We’re tracking Tropical Depression 18, which is expected to enter the Gulf of Mexico this week.

(WALA) – We are tracking Tropical Depression 18 in the Caribbean. At the moment, this system is still poorly organized, making it difficult for models to locate a center. In the coming days, it will be better organized, will move north, into the Gulf, and will take the name Rafael. What happens once we reach the Gulf will become much more uncertain.

What we do know is that he will be in the Gulf midweek. Additionally, waves will be rough with a risk of high rip currents all week. Rain chances will also likely increase late this week as the system moves closer. He will also encounter hostile conditions in the higher levels which will likely weaken him. Beyond that, there are a lot of question marks, so stay tuned!

For today, expect mostly cloudy conditions with a few passing light showers. Highs will be in the 80s.

Expect similar conditions in the coming week, with rain chances increasing later in the week.
