Canadian police attack Hindu worshipers during protest against temple attack

Canadian police officers clashed with Hindu worshipers protesting an attack on a temple near Toronto by “anti-Indian elements”. Police assaulted worshipers at the temple, many of whom were waving the Indian flag, a video shared by a Canadian journalist showed. He also captured a police officer charging at a protester and punching him several times.

“He hits with a stick,” says the woman who filmed the video, pointing to a police officer, accusing him of attacking the demonstrators. The angry crowd soon began shouting “get him out.”

The journalist who shared the video claimed that the cops targeted Hindu worshipers to protect “Khalistanis who came to harass temple devotees on Diwali”.

A mob stormed the Hindu Sabha temple in Brampton earlier today and attacked worshipers, which Prime Minister Justin Trudeau condemned. “The acts of violence committed today at the Hindu Sabha Mandir in Brampton are unacceptable. Every Canadian has the right to practice their faith freely and safely,” Trudeau said on X.

The Indian embassy said “anti-Indian elements” had orchestrated the violence outside its consular camp co-hosted by the temple. Calling it “deeply disappointing”, the embassy said similar attempts had taken place to disrupt the camps in Surrey and Vancouver over the past two days.

The incidents come amid diplomatic tensions between the two countries triggered by Trudeau’s accusation that India was behind the assassination of Khalistan terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. India, which deemed the accusations unfounded, also accused Canada of providing sanctuary to terrorists and extremists.
