What happened at the Brampton Temple? MP says Canadian Khalistanis have ‘crossed the red line’

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau on Sunday led Canadian politicians in condemning the attack on Hindu worshipers at the Hindu Sabha temple in Brampton, calling the incident “shameful” and “unacceptable.”

The incident occurred on Sunday after a group of Khalistani extremists marching towards the Hindu Sabha temple in Brampton began unleashing violence against devotees. Footage shared by the Toronto-based Hindu Canadian Foundation showed men holding Khalistan flags and banners clashing with worshipers, some of whom were holding Indian flags. The video also shows fights and people hitting each other with sticks.

Canadian police said they were investigating “a protest at a Hindu temple in Brampton that allegedly turned violent on Sunday afternoon.”

“While we respect individual rights to protest in accordance with the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, our duty and responsibility remains to maintain public order and ensure the safety of all,” Peel police said in a statement. press release published on social networks. Police chief Nishan Duraiappah said on social media that violence would not be tolerated and those who participated in the activity would be prosecuted, arrested and charged.

Peel Police have deployed additional officers to the area. However, no arrests had been announced.

Canadian MP Chandra Arya took to X to share videos of the violence, saying a “red line was crossed today by Canadian Khalistani extremists.” He added that this proves that Khalistani violent extremism has become brazen in Canada and believes that there is “a little truth in reports that, in addition to the Canadian political apparatus, the Khalistanis have actually infiltrated our law enforcement agencies.”

Trudeau immediately condemned the attack, calling reports of violence “shameful.” He added that every Canadian has the right to practice their faith freely and safely.

Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre also published an article about the incident, calling it “completely unacceptable.” Interestingly, the Khalistan supporter and NDP leader also spoke to X to condemn the “acts of violence at the Hindu Sabha Mandir”. “Every Canadian must be free to visit their place of worship in peace,” he said.

However, the Canadian Hindu Foundation has criticized his “double standards” which it says will not work well with educated Canadians. “You must take a stand by either supporting Canada’s core values of love, respect and mutual concern, or by supporting the Khalistaani armed forces,” it reads.

Meanwhile, the Khalistani Sikhs for Justice movement issued a bizarre statement that “Hindu nationalists had provoked the fighting.” He says Indian officials are using their visits to religious sites to find informants who could target Sikh separatists. The extremist group also wants “Indian consular officials not to be allowed to work outside their diplomatic premises.”

The Indian High Commission in Ottawa did not immediately respond to the complaints.
