The lyrics to “The Giver” by Chappell Roan are a naughty invitation

On Saturday, November 3, Chappell Roan gave an electric rendition of his hit song “Pink Pony Club” on Saturday evening live before debuting a brand new country club song.

The new track, titled “The Giver,” continues to touch on some of Roan’s favorite themes: girls liking girls. She took the stage with her all-female band wearing a denim and gingham print top and shorts with cowboy boots, along with her signature drag-inspired makeup. Her red wig for the evening was adorned with a silver curl, evoking visions of country star Bonnie Raitt.

It’s no surprise that Roan shares something special on the sketch comedy show. Before her appearance, she shared a screenshot of an old post she made under her old stage name in which she vowed to perform on Saturday evening live.

In the song’s chorus, Roan sings “I do the work” and it’s no mystery what work she’s singing about.

“All you country boys say you know how to threaten a woman,” Roan said playfully during the musical number. “Well, only a woman knows how to treat a woman well. She gets the job done.

In the lyrics of the new song’s verses, Roan references hunting lodges, dive bars, and country boys who don’t know what they’re doing, probably in the bedroom. But she does, of course. Here are the full lyrics:

Verse one
There is no wood on the walls
But I certainly know the mating calls
The stalls in the bars on a Friday evening
I know the boys might need a map
But I can close my eyes
And are you wrapped around my fingers like this

Pre-chorus
So baby
When you need the job done
Call me “Baby”

Choir
Because you don’t need to tell me
It’s just in my nature
So take it as a taker, ’cause, baby, I’m a giver
I don’t need help, ’cause, baby, I’m giving birth
There’s no country boy who gives up
I do the work
I do the work

Verse two
Girl, I don’t need a van
Revvin’ strong to come get you
Cause the way I love is the way I touch
And in the mall, the city of dreams
Good luck finding a man who can afford it.
To a cowgirl in rhinestones all night long

Pre-chorus
So baby
If you’ve never had one
Call me “Baby”

Choir
Because you don’t need to tell me
It’s just in my nature
So take it as a taker, ’cause, baby, I’m a giver
I don’t need help, ’cause, baby, I’m giving birth
There’s no country boy who gives up
I do the work
I do the work

Bridge
Na-na na-na na-na-na-na
Na-na na-na na-na-na-na
Na-na na-na na-na-na-na
Na-na-na (She does the job)
All you country boys say you know how to treat a woman, don’t you?

Choir
Because you don’t need to tell me
It’s just in my nature
So take it as a taker, ’cause, baby, I’m a giver
I don’t need help, ’cause, baby, I’m giving birth
There’s no future for a quitter
I do the work
I do the work

Exit
I do the work
I do the work
Well I do the work
Yes ma’am, yes I do
You are welcome

Leading to her SNL Appearing, Roan insinuated that a new album was on the way. The star posted a photo of herself with the LP cover of The Rise and Fall of a Midwestern Princesswriting in the caption: “The album is a bit out in my opinion, but it’s time to welcome a new bombshell into the villa.”

In an interview with the New York Timesits producer and co-writer, Dan Nigro, described one of the new tracks they worked on as a “fun, upbeat country song” with “a fiddle”, saying it would offer “a new take on Chappell” . .”

Looks like she’s there and getting the job done.
