The world of horror cinema has seen many successful franchises over the years, with fans eagerly awaiting the next installments of their favorite series. Now, the most successful horror sequels have finally been revealed, and they might not be the ones you expected.

VegasInsider.com conducted a comprehensive data analysis of over 350 horror films from over 70 franchises. The study took into account factors such as worldwide gross, ROI, IMDb ratings, Metacritic scores, and Rotten Tomatoes scores.

According to the results, Evil Dead 2 (1987), 10 Cloverfield Lane (2016), Terrifier 2 (2022), and Terrifier 3 (2024) are the best-performing horror sequels of all time.

Interestingly, the second and third installments of the Terrifier franchise outperformed the original 2016 film. Terrifier 3 saw one of the highest increases in its IMDb user rating, with each film scoring higher than the last .

The first film received a rating of 5.6 out of 10, the second received a rating of 6.1, while the latter film currently stands at 6.7.

Evil Dead 2 and 10 Cloverfield Lane also outperformed their predecessors in ROI, Metacritic, Rotten Tomatoes, and IMDb scores.

Terrifier 3 hit screens on October 11, just in time for the Halloween season.

The film’s plot follows Sienna Shaw (played by Lauren LaVera) as she attempts to rebuild her life, with Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton) and his new accomplice Victoria Heyes (Samantha Scaffidi) in pursuit.

The initial film received mixed reviews from critics who felt the plot was lacking and the main characters were underdeveloped.

However, the sequel proved to be a box office success and garnered positive reviews from critics, who noted significant improvement in the follow-up.

Fans of the series will be delighted to learn that a fourth film is currently in production, as confirmed by director Damien Leone. However, this will be the final installment, wrapping up the stories of Art the Clown, The Little Pale Girl, Victoria Heyes and Sienna Shaw.
