ACC in updated coaches poll, AP Top 25

As the college football season progresses, the ACC continues to find its place in the college football landscape.

The team to watch in conference was and remains Miamiwho won by a lopsided 53-31 score against Duke, a score that doesn’t reflect how competitive the game actually was. Cam Ward bolstered his ever-lengthening Heisman resume, completing 25 of 41 passes for 400 yards and five touchdowns, while wide receiver Alex Restrepo was once again his favorite target with 146 yards and three touchdowns on eight catches.

In what appeared to be the game of the week heading into Saturday’s game schedule, SMU (8-1, 5-0 in ACC play) demolished a once-undefeated Pitt team, beating the Panthers 48-25. SMU quarterback Kevin Jennings completed 17 of 25 passes for 306 yards and two touchdowns, while running back Brashard Smith added 23 points for 161 yards and two scores.

An even bigger conference shock occurred at Clemson, where Dabo Swinney’s Tigers were defeated by Jeff Brohm’s Louisville Cardinals. 33-21. Clemson had a 7-3 lead late in the first quarter and never led again after a 4-yard touchdown run by Tyler Shough 10 minutes into the second quarter.

If the Tigers can bounce back and make the CFP following the frustrating defeat remains to be seen. Until then, here’s where the Tigers — and the rest of the ACC — stand in the Week 11 college football rankings.
