Williams Racing driver Franco Colapinto had a qualifying session to forget ahead of the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.

Conditions at Interlagos were dangerous ahead of the sixth Sunday qualifying session in Formula 1 history after conditions at Sao Paulo Grand Prix were too wet for the race to take place after the Sprint race.

Karun Chandhok spoke about Sky Sports F1 on the Argentinian and his future beyond this season.

“He’s clearly very talented, clearly very fast, but you can’t just shortcut the experience and I wonder if he wouldn’t be better off waiting for some time at RB and maybe ending up in a Red Bull later.”

Colapinto is waiting nervously to find out if Williams can repair his car in time to compete in Sunday’s Grand Prix.

He has work to do to add to his five points in the Drivers’ Championship as he will start 18th as long as he does not receive penalties for changing components on his car following his crash.

Christian Horner is a fan of Colapinto after his brilliant start to life in F1 with Williams who will keep the Argentinian as a reserve driver if he fails to secure a place elsewhere on the grid.

Helmut Marko is less enthusiastic about Colapinto because he would like to continue promoting at Redbull own talents rather than relying on drivers from elsewhere.
