Kerala: Two river metro boats collide in Kochi, passengers are safe – Kerala News

Two river metro boats collided in Kochi, Kerala, while passing each other near the Fort Kochi terminal, triggering alarms and on-board security systems.

The passengers were evacuated without any injuries by the authorities.

The collision occurred when a boat arriving from the High Court collided with another, heading towards the same station.

After the incident, three bloggers, who were on one of the boats, created a ruckus and wanted to enter the restricted area of the boat’s control cabin, but were stopped by the officials on board, said Kochi Water Metro Limited (KWML) in a statement. .

An investigation has been ordered by the authorities to determine the reasons for this incident, the press release added.

In May 2023, a Kochi River Metro boat got stuck in the backwaters during its journey from Kakkanad to Vyttila after developing a technical glitch.

The boat remained stationary for a few minutes due to a delay in switching from electric to diesel engine mode.

“Usually in hybrid technology, the engine operation can be switched from electric to diesel mode within a few seconds,” Kochi Water Metro Rail authorities said in a statement.

In April 2023, the Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the first phase of Kochi Water Metro services.

The Kerala government and a German company, KfW, financed the development of the Kerala Water Metro project, which includes 38 terminals and 78 electric boats.
