Disney Forms Group to Harness AI and Mixed Reality in Entertainment and Theme Parks

Walt Disney Company reportedly formed a new group, the Office of Technology Enablement, to explore the use of emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI) And mixed reality to improve its offerings in the cinema, television and theme park divisions.
Citing an email, a Reuters news agency report says the newly formed group will be led by Jamie Voris, the film studio’s chief technology officer who led development of the Disney app for the reality device mixed Apple Vision Pro.
“The pace and scope of advancements in AI and XR (extended reality) are profound and will continue to impact consumer experiences, creative efforts and our businesses for years to come. Disney explore exciting opportunities and manage potential risks,” said Alan Bergman, co-chairman of Disney Entertainment.

What the new group will do

The Office of Technology Enablement will focus on technologies such as AI and mixed reality, which seamlessly blend the physical and digital worlds. Although the group will not centralize technology efforts, it will ensure alignment with Disney’s broader strategic goals, the report said.
Voris will report to Bergman and the new group is expected to grow to about 100 employees, a person familiar with the matter said.
Disney is actively exploring the potential of augmented reality, virtual realityand mixed reality across its different divisions. The company has assembled a team of experts, including Kyle Laughlin, a seasoned veteran of augmented and virtual reality, to drive innovation in these areas.
Tech companies have sold about 1.7 million AR/VR headsets so far this year, according to market research firm IDC.
