Former Celtics champion denounces blatant foul by Grant Williams

Former Boston Celtics bench guard Eddie House, a vital part of the club’s 2008 championship team, weighed in on former Celtics forward Grant Williams’ flagrant foul on Boston’s All-NBA forward Jayson Tatum in their first of two consecutive games. -back from the meetings between Boston and Williams’ Charlotte Hornets last night. In that 124-109 Celtics victory, Williams pushed Tatum and sent the 6-foot-10 superstar to the ground. The force of Williams’ push also sent him to the ground.

After the game, another former All-Star Celtics teammate of Williams, swingman Jaylen Brown, announced the moment.

House, for his part, barely considers what happened a basketball game.

“I was told that when I was young: that not all brothers are brothers. And just because we might be cool, there’s something right there… I mean, that n It’s not even a ball game. It’s something that’s built into him. That game there wasn’t a basketball game, and it could have actually done something crazy. Jayson Tatum, thank God it wasn’t one of those (cases),” House said.

After a glacial shooting performance in the 2023 playoffs for Boston, Williams signed a four-year, $54 million sign-and-trade deal with the Dallas Mavericks. However, he was so disappointing there too that he was traded to Charlotte at the February 2024 trade deadline. His two former teams faced each other in the NBA Finals last season, with the Celtics winning on the Mavericks in five games.

“We know it wasn’t a basketball game. And like Jaylen said, he knows better than that. He knows that – or maybe he doesn’t! Maybe he (think) simply: ‘This is what I’m about to do.’ , and it doesn’t matter. There are certain ways to set the tone, in the game, to be physical, and there are certain ways to be borderline dirty… and there, it was right on the verge of being dirty,” House added. “That’s something I don’t think anyone should condone.”

The Celtics and Hornets will face off again Saturday night at 6 p.m. ET. Fans on both sides will watch Williams with bated breath.

Williams, a bench player on a 2-3 Hornets team that will be happy to make the playoffs, scored just six points on 2-of-6 shooting from the floor in his 30:24 of action, all grabbing seven rebounds, passing for three assists and a steal.
