  • A Cybertruck owner found a DIY answer to a problem Tesla service technicians couldn’t seem to fix.
  • After replacing the windshield, his electric vehicle developed wind noise and Tesla’s attempts to remedy it were unsuccessful.
  • 9mm weather stripping ultimately provided a solution at the low cost of $13.

A Cybertruck Owner Got So Frustrated TeslaFaced with his inability to fix a problem with his electric truck, he took matters into his own hands and fixed it with a $13 DIY part.

Jay Larson, an Arizona-based podiatrist, posted on his MyCybertruckLife X tells how it was pushed to act after being disappointed by the Tesla dealership attempts to solve a wind noise problem on its pick-up. The truck, which was perfectly quiet when he first purchased it, began to make a high-pitched whistling sound after it was bulletproof windshield has been replaced due to a factory defect.

Larson was adamant that the Cybertruck hadn’t made any noise before the screen change, so he returned to his dealership in Tempe, Arizona, expecting technicians to correct the problem. They made one attempt, telling Larson that the problem was gone, but he disagreed and so asked them to take another look.

This time they told him the noise was normal for a Cybertruck and that they couldn’t reproduce the sound he complained about, even at highway speeds. And for these reasons, they said there was no solution available, although Larson insisted it was suitable for the original windshield. A classic case of “they all do that, sir”.

Unsatisfied with this answer and still irritated by the whistling wind, Larson began looking for his own solution. And he found it on Amazon, where he purchased a roll of 9mm silicone weather stripping that fit snugly into the gap at the top of the windshield. He removed some of the tape backing, but not all of it, saying the seal was so tight that he didn’t need much adhesive. He also had a hunch that it might have been more difficult to install if all of the adhesive surface had been exposed.

Larson says that truck is now quiet, even at 90 mph (145 km/h), and it only cost him $12.99 to repair. But he shouldn’t have spent a cent.
