Colin Farrell admits finding suitable accommodation for his disabled son was a “struggle”.

The ‘Penguin’ star had James Padraig Farrell, 21, with American model Kim Bordenave, 52, in 2003 – and four years later announced the youngster suffered from Angelman syndrome, a genetic condition rare characterized by intellectual and developmental delay, slurred speech, and excitable behavior.

And the 48-year-old actor says all the money in the world hasn’t been enough to find his son a place to live that gives him full confidence that all his support and needs will be met.

He told WHO magazine: “Even with the means I have, it’s a struggle to find suitable residential care – somewhere James can go and live a truly happy, connected life, where he feels to belong to the community, where he can be challenged, where he can be cared for and treated with a similar version of the love that me and his mother were able to share with him over the years.

The ‘Phone Booth’ actor realized it must be even harder for families who can’t afford huge healthcare bills, so he’s doing his part through his Colin Farrell Foundation – which helps adult children with intellectual disabilities through advocacy, education and innovative programs.

He continued: “Realizing that, I thought, ‘Oh, my God, if I have these difficulties, what about all the other families who don’t have the same means as mine? ‘

Colin – who also has a 15-year-old son, Henry, with Polish actress Alicja Bachleda-Curuś – admits it would be his worst nightmare if he and Kim left the world before finding somewhere James could live a “good life fulfilled”.

He said: “My horror would be if I have a heart attack tomorrow and James’ mum has a car accident and she’s taken away, then he’ll be alone.

“We want to find a place now, while we’re still alive and healthy, where we can visit him, and we can take him outside, but we know he’s somewhere where he can have a life busy and connected long after we leave.
