    First-year head coach JJ Redick has brought the Los Angeles Lakers back above .500.

    LeBron James and Anthony Davis each recorded double-doubles while totaling 58 points in Friday night’s 131-125 win over the Toronto Raptors.

    The Lakers ended a two-game slump and improved to 4-2 on the season with this victory.

    When LeBron (5-8 triples, 10 assists, 0 turnovers) and AD (38 pts at 14-20) play this dominantly, the Lakers have a Top 10 and a Top 5. Tell me that’s not not enough to win the West.

    I don’t think there’s a duo with a connection like LeBron and AD have on the court.

    James led the Lakers with 14 points, while Davis contributed nine in the first 12 minutes to help their team take a 43-19 lead in the first quarter.

    The Raptors began to chip away at their lead early in the second half, closing to within 11 points of the tie by the end of the third quarter.

    Being able to maintain a 20-point lead is actually a very critical aspect of being a championship team.
    To achieve easy wins by 20+ points, you need depth and discipline. In recent years, the Lakers haven’t had the discipline to stop for 48 minutes.

    JJ Redick and the staff can only do so much with what they have, which is great. They maximize the list. The same cannot be said for the last two years.
    However, they now need to update the list. This is quite clear. (That was before of course.)

    The Lakers scored 130 points but the bench only scored 18. Disgusting. The Lakers FO have no intention of helping LeBron and AD and winning a ring.

    The Raptors got as close as six points in the fourth quarter, but free throws from Anthony Davis and Austin Reaves allowed the Lakers to close out the victory.

    The win marked the Lakers’ fourth since Redick took over as head coach ahead of the 2024-25 season.

    JJ Redick said he adjusted the rotation tonight to put the ball more in the hands of D’Angelo Russell, next to Anthony Davis. It also led to Austin Reaves and LeBron James playing together more, with Redick noting their chemistry as a pair.

    The Lakers are getting calls again. The coaching seems fluid and simple. the players know their role and finally Lebron and AD can be themselves. I love the effort

    Davis finished the night with 12 rebounds and a game-high 38 points on 14-of-20 shooting from the field while hitting 10-of-11 from the foul line.

    James went 5 of 8 from behind the arc while contributing 27 points and 10 assists to the victory.

    RJ Barrett and Gradey Dick topped 30 points for the Raptors, but couldn’t overcome James and Davis as Toronto fell to 1-5 on the season and 1-3 at home.

    Davis, James and the Lakers are back in action Monday night with another road game, this time against the 1-5 Detroit Pistons. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.
