‘Amateur’ thieves steal portraits from Warhol’s ‘Queens’ series from Dutch gallery

Thieves made off with two screen prints from Andy Warhol’s ‘Reigning Queens’ series after breaking into an art gallery in the southern Dutch town of Oisterwijk.

The thieves had left two other portraits on the street after being unable to get them all into the getaway car, MPV Gallery owner Mark Peet Visser told broadcaster Omroep Brabant after viewing the camera footage security.

The thieves used heavy explosives to enter the gallery.

“The entrance to the gallery was blown out and there was glass all around the building,” Dutch media reported.

And then they ran to the car with the artwork and it turned out it didn’t fit in the car. …The structures are damaged beyond repair
