Cincinnati State expands nursing program with $1.5 million grant, hopes to address local shortage

CINCINNATI (WKRC) – Cincinnati State is now better equipped to combat the local nursing shortage, thanks to a $1.5 million grant from the Hamilton County Commissioners.

The funding was used to create a new nursing skills lab, hire additional faculty and expand existing labs.

“Through this grant, we have provided 35 students with the opportunity to continue their education here at Cincinnati State through scholarships, and all of these students fully deserve it,” said Dr. Bonnie Smith, dean of the Department of Health and Public Safety. Department.

Cincinnati State students can pursue a career as a licensed practical nurse or registered nurse. The college also plans to offer a bachelor’s degree in nursing.
