Top 10: What would we do if we received a mysterious message from the future – Young Post

This week’s question: You discover a door in your school that you’ve never seen before. When you open it, where do you think it takes you? To participate, write to us via this form or send us an email at (email protected) before 12 p.m. on Wednesday, November 6. Tell us your name, age and school.

Envis Chan, 14 years old, SKH Tsang Shiu Tim Secondary School: I looked at the letter I had just taken out of the envelope and my jaw dropped as I finished reading the letter. “Humanity is dead. Blood is fuel. Hell is full,” wrote a self-proclaimed “last human on Earth.” A robot called v1 will wipe out humanity and open the gates of hell. There were clear instructions to prevent the event from happening, and an advanced weapon accompanied the journal. I couldn’t shake it off as just a prank. I went to an unassuming restaurant and waited for a man matching the description in the letter to appear. I carefully placed the weapons in his pocket, as the letter demanded, and the message I could not decode despite my best efforts. My work here was done. Until I returned home and found, to my surprise, that the gate through which the envelope had arrived was still there.

Joe Lee Ka-chun, 15, Ng Yuk Secondary School: Receiving a mysterious message from the future would cause a whirlwind of emotions and thoughts. At first, I felt a mixture of intrigue and skepticism. Questions would flood my mind. How credible is this message? Is this a hoax or a real warning? If the message contained information about events or decisions that I could influence, I would be torn between the desire to act and the fear of changing the timeline. I could think about the ethical implications of my choices and whether intervening would be right. I would also verify the post by looking for supporting evidence. Consulting friends or trusted experts might help me interpret its meaning. Ultimately, I would strive to balance curiosity and caution, weighing the potential benefits and risks of acting on information from an uncertain future.

Chocolate Huang Jing-lin, 15, Fung Kai No. 1 Secondary School: I think it was very interesting. I would be curious to know what the world would look like in the future. Have we witnessed an ice age or the return of dinosaur-like creatures? Or has life become more technology-driven? I would like to contact the person from the future who sent me this mysterious message and try to find out more about their time and what will happen. I would also talk to them about their past – about my present.

Keith Cheung Ming-ting, 13, St Paul’s Mixed College: Is it a cryptic message or some kind of riddle with a hidden meaning behind it? I would try to understand. Assuming the mysterious message was about my future, I would give it importance.

Emmi Chong Wing-tung, 14, True Light School in Kowloon: If a future me told me I was in danger and told me what was going to happen, I would follow my instructions. If my health should deteriorate, I will start taking care of it sooner. If my parents died in their 30s, I would spend more time with them and cherish every moment. I would even try to prevent this from happening. If in the future I am broke and resort to begging, I will study hard and change my path. I would make sure to live a peaceful and happy life, preventing as many bad things from happening as possible. I would work hard young to make my future perfect, and I would retire early once I earned enough to support myself and my family.

Andrea Cheung, 12 years old, island school: I would be extremely curious because receiving messages from the future usually only happens in fantasy novels. Have my fantasies come true or is this a warning of my unhappy future?

Charis Chan, 15, Malvern College, Hong Kong: I would feel relieved. With today’s rapid technological advancements, we have no idea where our Google search history, Instagram comments, or WhatsApp messages are leaving their mark on the Internet. By receiving a message from the future, I could recognize the right or wrong of my actions and find out what will happen in the digital future.

William Li, 16, SKH Tsang Shiu Tim Secondary School: If I received a mysterious message from the future, I would initially think of it as a mischievous prank. Some of my friends may see this as a fun way to relieve their study stress. I would probably find it in my email, which I check regularly. Maybe the messenger would pose as a teacher at my school, informing me that I would be expelled if I walked through the school gate with my left foot tomorrow. Thinking outside the box, it would make sense that an extraterrestrial would send this message. As a big science fiction fan, I could imagine the message being similar to that of The three body problem“don’t answer.” The sender could even be me. I remember writing a letter to my future self during Chinese class in elementary school. The answer might appear in my bedroom drawer, which I rarely use. I have high hopes for my future, such as being virtuous and good at studying. I hope I’m on the right track to achieving these dreams.

Sonia Tam Hin-ching, 14 years old, Pooi in middle school: I would ignore it because I don’t believe the future will have such high-tech communications software to connect to the past. Also, the stranger may be a scammer trying to steal my money or personal information.

Jovina Chung Man-yan, 11 years old, Holy Angels Canossian School: Receiving a mysterious message from the future would be an exciting and confusing experience. I would probably feel a mixture of excitement and fear. The idea of someone or something from the future trying to communicate with me is both fascinating and a little unsettling. I would like to read the message carefully. I would look for clues as to what it says and why it was sent. Questions flooded my mind: What does this mean? Is this a warning or advice? Could this change the way I live my life now? Uncertainty would arouse my curiosity, making me want to know more.
