Ontario Provincial Police seize suspected fentanyl and crack cocaine following investigation into trailer thefts in Eastern Ontario

An investigation into rental trailer thefts in eastern Ontario has led to the seizure of suspected fentanyl and crack cocaine, according to the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

The investigation began on October 21 and 25 after police received reports of thefts from utility trailers in North Grenville. Police point out that investigators discovered that these thefts were linked to similar incidents that occurred in Smiths Falls on October 27 and 28.

That’s when several police detachments and the Gatineau Police worked together to identify a suspect.

The suspect was identified as a resident of Gatineau. When the Ontario Provincial Police Street Crime Unit located and arrested the suspect on Rideau Street, officers seized approximately 30 grams of suspected fentanyl and almost two grams of suspected crack cocaine.

The 43-year-old man was charged with theft over $5,000 and two counts of possession of Schedule I substances for the purpose of trafficking.

The accused is due to appear in court on November 15.
