The New York Rangers and Ottawa Senators are set to face off Friday night at Madison Square Garden in what should be an exciting offensive showdown.

NHL odds have the Senators as +161 underdogs, and bettors are pegging the total at 6.5.

My Senators vs. Rangers prediction targets a backup player for Drake Batherson, who has had a good start to the season and will be counted on to have a big game tonight.

Check out my Senators vs Rangers game NHL Pick for Friday November 1st.

Senators vs Rangers Prediction

My choice of senators

Drake Batherson Over 2.5 shots on goal
(-112 at the Pinnacle)

My analysis of the Senators

Drake Batherson and his teammates, Josh Norris And Claude Girouxhad a great start to the season. Through the first nine games, those three have combined for 31 points, while Batherson leads the way with 12.

This line energized the Ottawa Senators offensively and is one of the main reasons why they currently sit as the third highest scoring team in the NHL, averaging 4.22 goals per game. Everything seems to be going on the offensive side of the puck right now for this group. They have scored 16 total goals in their last three games and look to keep that momentum going at Madison Square Garden tonight.

As for Batherson, his team will need him to shoot the puck a little more tonight. THE New York Rangers allowing 31.8 shots on goal per game, which is seventh highest in the league, implying a team like Ottawa will have their looks. The Rangers also happen to allow the fourth most dangerous chances per 60. They are a team that makes mistakes, but those are overshadowed by the play of their goaltender, Igor Shesterkin.

Batherson is averaging 2.32 shots on goal per game and is third on the team in most shots, but he’s been a little quiet in his last three games, generating just one shot on goal in each of these matches. He’s a player who rises to the big occasions, and what could be bigger than playing against last year’s Presidents’ Trophy winning team on a Friday night?

Batherson should have some good opportunities tonight and should be very hungry to help his team win.

Over/Under analysis of the Senators against the Rangers

The total currently stands at 6.5 for this matchup, but I find it interesting that the under is favored. Linus Ullmark And Igor Shesterkin should be the starting goalie matchup tonight, which is why the market would favor the Under, but both of these teams have also given up a lot, and both have been excellent on the power play.

Ottawa enters this game with the second-best power play in the league (42.9%) and they had a 2/3 power play in their most recent game. The Rangers are currently the seventh-best power play unit in the league (25.9%), but given the Senators’ penalty kill is below average, they should be able to convert.

These two teams can score goals at will.
