In the same story from the Washington PostActivision highlighted not only the success of Call of Duty but also how the development structure of the series will apparently not be different under Microsoft’s rule.

Matt Cox, senior vice president and general manager of Activision’s Call of Duty, explained how the established system would be expected to remain the same, with long-term development partnerships already in place. Here’s what they had to say:

“When you look at Treyarch and Raven, they have a history of working together within the Black Ops franchise dating back to 2010. You have that history with the people you work with, and it ultimately shows when it comes to This is the finished product from a publishing and marketing point of view.

He reiterated that even though Microsoft now owns Activision and its intellectual property, there is still a production system for Call of Duty that involves 15 different studios working on the latest entries. So there you have it, it will apparently be business as usual for Call of Duty teams going forward.

The most notable change under Microsoft (as of now) is that new entries in the series will now launch “Day One” on the tech giant’s subscription service, Game Pass. It obviously started with Black Ops 6 last week. The series will also be available on more platforms in the future, after Microsoft has deals with companies like Nintendo.
