Residents of 80 King Street have been displaced after an apartment fire in Orillia, Ontario.

A large group of people have been temporarily displaced after a fire at an Orillia apartment complex.

The city’s fire chief said crews were called to the building at 80 King Street around 5:30 p.m. Thursday. When firefighters arrived, they noticed heavy smoke coming from a home located on the first floor.

Around six people had to be evacuated by firefighters, while the rest of the building’s tenants got out independently.

The fire was contained to a unit located on the first floor, which suffered the most significant damage. However, due to the heavy smoke, all residents of the building have been displaced for the time being.

One person was hospitalized as a precaution.

The cause has not been determined. Fire Chief Chris Ferry says the Ontario Fire Marshal has been notified.
