Bernie Sanders pleads with pro-Palestinian MSNBC viewers to support Kamala Harris

Bernie Sanders spoke to MSNBC’s “All In with Chris Hayes” to explain why voters who support the Palestinian people and oppose the war in Gaza should still support Kamala Harris. As the 2024 campaign comes to a head, the Biden-Harris administration’s stance on the conflict remains a contentious point on the campaign trail.

“The bottom line is that many, many millions of Americans, myself included, strongly disagree with Biden and Harris’ position on Gaza and their support for Netanyahu,” Sanders said. “I think viewers understand that what is happening in Gaza right now is horrific in terms of the loss of life and the number of injuries. And now, because Israel is blocking humanitarian aid, we are facing massive child malnutrition and starvation.”

“And they will make the situation even worse by not allowing UNRWA to provide humanitarian aid to Gaza,” the Vermont senator continued.

But that’s when he made a turning point, explaining why, despite his concerns about the administration’s policies, he still supports Harris.

“What I think is it’s important for people – especially young people – to know that even though Biden and Harris are wrong on this issue, Trump is even worse,” Sanders argued.

In their discussion, Sanders brought up Sheldon Adelson’s billionaire widow, Miriam Adelson, who donated about $100 million to support Trump.

“She is fiercely pro-Netanyahu,” Sanders said.

Their conversation follows a video Sanders posted earlier in the week, making a similar argument to his supporters:

“The point of my video, which kind of blew me away – it’s already been viewed over 15 million times – is that, yes, we don’t agree with Harris on this issue, but we have much better chance… of changing American politics under Harris,” Sanders said.

“And I promise that I will do everything I can to pressure the administration to change its policy and no longer continue to provide financial aid, military aid or offensive aid to Netanyahu,” the senator promised.

Sanders and Hayes also took time in their interview to take a few shots at Trump’s most ardent billionaire supporter, Elon Musk.

“It sometimes feels like Elon Musk came out of the mind of Bernie Sanders to embody the billionaire class,” Hayes joked, noting the hundreds of millions of dollars the Tesla CEO has invested in politics to support conservative candidates – particularly Trump – while also being “virulently anti-union.”

The senator agreed, telling Hayes he was “absolutely right.” He highlighted three billionaires who spent hundreds of millions to make Trump the next president, while conceding: “The Democrats have their billionaires, but what we have to face is the reality: We can’t allow this type of billionaire money to determine who. the next president of the United States is.

Hayes discussed the 1968 Democratic campaign and the role of the Vietnam War in that year’s race and the eventual election of Richard Nixon.

“In the 1968 campaign, people were very, very understandably and rightly furious with Johnson and the Democratic Party over Vietnam,” Hayes said. “People forget this, but Nixon ran as a peace candidate in 1968 and immediately began secretly bombing Cambodia, causing loss of life.”

Sanders agreed, adding: “Let’s understand that Netanyahu is a racist, right-wing extremist prime minister in Israel, and he surely wants his good friend Donald Trump to be president of the United States – two right-wing extremists working together. »

He said the answer is for “millions of us to be active on this issue to change US policy in Gaza.”
