Blacklick Valley Ambulance Service receives $200,000 grant

NANTY GLO, Pa. (WTAJ) — On Thursday, the Blacklick Valley Foundation and ambulance service received a check for just over $200,000.

The money comes from grants announced last week, the Local Share Account (LSA) and the Public School Facilities Improvement Grant Program.

The sum of $202,713 was awarded for a new ambulance to be used at Nanty Glo.

“Most people didn’t know there was a problem in Cambria County right now, where we are losing more and more ambulance service and there is a lack of staffing and funding for medical services emergency. So it’s extremely important that we can maintain service here for the community,” said Bob Spongross, chairman of the Blacklick board of directors.

Blacklick Valley Ambulance serves Nanty Glo Borough, Blacklick Township and Vintondale Borough.

The money will be used to purchase a new ambulance to replace their 2013 Chevrolet which has nearly 300,000 miles on it.

“You know, with staff available 24/7/365, a new unit would definitely be very helpful to the community,” said station commander Ron Litzinger.
