GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KJCT) –

Western Colorado reached below freezing temperatures overnight. Grand Junction dropped to 29°. This is the first frost since May 8.

The National Weather Service issued a freeze warning indicating temperatures were below freezing and all included locations reached below-freezing temperatures as expected.

Grand Junction hit 48° yesterday. It was Grand Junction’s coldest day since March 25 last winter.

Halloween is tonight and temperatures aren’t expected to reach the 50s across the valley until today. While the treats are out tonight, temperatures will reach 40 degrees at 6 p.m. However, most of the day contains only light cloud cover. No precipitation is expected in the forecast for the next three days.

As Sunday morning approaches, a new storm hits the region. There was a 20% chance of this happening, but now, due to the convective outlook, that chance has increased to 40%. Convection is the vertical movement of air in the atmosphere and is necessary as the driving force behind the creation of storms. Convection appears to have increased significantly in response to the upcoming storm. So we have a higher probability of rain. Higher elevations could see snowfall.
