Beauséjour boil water advisory in effect

A power outage in a Manitoba town has triggered a boil water advisory.

According to the City of Beauséjour, a power outage that occurred on October 31 led to a loss of pressure in the city’s water distribution system.

Depressurization of the distribution system can compromise the safety of the water supply, the city said, which is why a boil water advisory has been issued to protect the public.

The city said that until further notice, all water used for drinking must be brought to a boil for at least one minute before being used for drinking and making ice, preparing beverages like concoctions for infants, food preparation and tooth brushing.

“There is no need to boil tap water used for other purposes, such as laundry or dishwashing,” the public notice states.

“Adults and older children who are able to avoid swallowing water can wash, bathe or shower. Young children should be bathed with a sponge.

If boiling is not practical, another source of water should be used for drinking purposes, such as bottled water.

In the meantime, all commercial, public, and licensed facilities, such as restaurants or personal care establishments, must follow water use recommendations.

The city said the boil water advisory would be in effect until the water being supplied no longer poses a risk to public health. Residents will then be informed.
